MLAs Yao, Greene, and Singh say water infrastructure upgrades will improve the stormwater management system in Richmond
RICHMOND – BC NDP MLAs Henry Yao, Kelly Greene, and Aman Singh say water infrastructure upgrades will improve the stormwater management system in Minoru Park.
“Many people in Richmond enjoy spending time at Minoru Park, whether it be on a walk with friends, playing sports, or taking their kids to the playground,” says Henry Yao, MLA for Richmond South Centre. “The water infrastructure upgrades will reduce the risk of flooding and preserve the local ecosystem, so that the park can be enjoyed for many years to come.”
In Richmond, the upgrades involve constructing a new stormwater detention pond, improving ditches, and installing a recirculating pump and a wet well to enhance the stormwater management system for increased storage and treatment. The improvements will help maintain cleaner waterways, minimize the risk of flooding, and enhance pathway connections around the lake, while promoting safety and comfort for visitors, fostering community connections to nature, and preserving local ecosystems.
“The upgraded water infrastructure at Minoru Park is great news for those who live, work, and play in Richmond,” says Kelly Greene, MLA for Richmond-Steveston. “Being in nature is good for our well-being, physically and mentally. The improved Minoru Park will benefit residents, as well as patients and families using Richmond Hospital.”
The Province is investing over $798,000 towards this project.
Four communities across the province are receiving upgrades to their water infrastructure after a combined investment of more than $7.6 million from the federal and provincial governments, and municipal partners.
