Hiking to the Lac le Jeune Lookout
Hiking from the Lac le Jeune Campground to the Vista Lookout and back on the Stake Lake Trails is a summer favorite. We start at the beach and then we follow the shoreline trail around the campground and out to Lac le Jeune Drive. A short distance east the Rossmoore FSR turns off and we follow it to access the Stake Lake Trail system.
An unmarked single track trail (N50 29.611 W120 27.808) goes off the Rustler Trail up to the lookout.
The Lookout can be accessed by cross country skis, snowshoes, mountain bike, or on foot. Views extend southwest to Lac le Jeune. With a little bit of exploration, there are also views to Fred Lake and Rossmoore Lake.
We take a different loop route every time. On this late June day we followed the Vista Snowshoe Trail down to Rustler and continued on a loop route through the forest.
Along the way are some marshes and swamps surrounded by with tall grasses and sedges.
Some of the previously-logged areas are now green and have been replanted.
Depending on the trails chosen the hike can be 7 – 10 km. On this day we hiked 9.3 km in about 2.6 hours.
We will be back to Lac le Jeune and Stake Lake to hike, paddle, and bike each month.
