Lower Rose Trails in March
A lesser-known set of trails can be hiked off of Rose Lake Road or from sideroads in Valleyview. the Lower Rose Trails are a network of single and double tracks between Rose Hill Road and Owl Road, south of the Valleyview neighborhood, but north of the gasline route between Rose Hill and Juniper. My favorite trailhead is off Rose Hill Road before the trailer park.
A loop route which takes about 1.5 hours ascends a ridge to the foot of steep slopes, then winds along single tracks bearing east past the head of a series of gullies, then trails descend down another ridge near Owl Road toward Valleyview.
To close the Lower Rose Loop I followed old double tracks bearing west, but it includes going down and up through a bigger gully before coming back to Rose Hill Road.
Some video footage (including some aerial drone shots) provides a sense of the type of hike found in this area.

Doug started exploring this area in 1976 and continues to follow tracks and routes wherever they lead, with the aid of map, compass, GPSr and camera. After many dead-ends, but also many discoveries, he chose to share this information.
