NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

MLA Osborne says grants will support local arts and extracurricular activities in Mid Island and Pacific Rim regions

UCLUELET – New Democrat MLA Josie Osborne says local organizations and parent advisory councils will be able to support young artists and extracurricular activities thanks to over $282,000 in Community Gaming Grants funding. This round of funding is from the Community Gaming Grants program’s arts and culture stream and parent advisory council and district parent advisory council (PAC/DPAC) stream.

“Our communities benefit hugely from the work non-profit organizations do to foster a greater sense of belonging by supporting youth and families, and by delivering arts and culture programming,” said Josie Osborne, MLA for Mid Island-Pacific Rim. “This new round of funding for organizations for arts, culture, and DPACs and PACs will support a wide array of exciting initiatives in our region.”

In Mid Island-Pacific Rim, 11 organizations are receiving almost $190,000 in funding to support arts and culture, including:

  • Hornby Festival Society, $23,000
  • The Port Alberni Maritime Heritage Society, $29,000
  • Alberni District Fall Fair, $15,250
  • Pacific Rim Arts Society, $15,300

Fourteen parent advisory councils/district parent advisory councils are receiving over $93,000 in funding to support extracurricular events, activities and equipment, including:

  • Cumberland Community School Parents Association, $13,000
  • Alberni District Secondary School Parent Advisory Council, $23,600
  • Bowser Elementary School PAC, $3,880

More than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture across the province.

More than 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive over $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
