COURTENAY – New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says that people in the Comox Valley will benefit from funding that will help strengthen their community’s resilience against climate-related hazards such as flooding, drought, and wildfires.

Ronna-Rae Leonard “With this funding, we’re helping make sure our coasts and shorelines will be more resilient in case of disasters,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “Not only does this protect our beautiful ecosystems, but also the people living on our coasts.”

The Comox Valley Regional District is receiving $1,135,454 for the Dyke Road Park Coastal Resilience through Green Shores project

The province is providing more than $44 million through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF), which will go to more than 70 projects in 63 communities under the Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Adaptation stream. These investments also support the Province’s Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy, which outlines a broad range of actions through to 2025 to address climate impacts and build resilience across B.C.
