Grants will support local organizations in delivering vital programs for people in Greater Victoria say MLAs Lore, Rankin, and Fleming
VICTORIA – Local organizations will continue to deliver programs that improve people’s quality of life thanks to nearly $61 million in Community Gaming Grants for human and social services, say New Democrat MLAs Grace Lore, Murray Rankin, and Rob Fleming
“We’re so lucky in Victoria to be home to an amazing array of community organizations,” said Grace Lore, MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill. “Our community continually shows care for each other, and I’m happy to be able to support their work through these grants.”
One hundred and thirteen organizations in Victoria, Oak Bay, and Saanich are receiving $5,560,100 in funding for human and social services, such as meeting the needs of under-served groups, providing public outreach and education, and more, including:
- Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society – $ 69,050
- James Bay Health and Community Services Society – $ 100,000
- ACPD – Action Committee of People with Disabilities Society – $ 157,000
- Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre Association – $ 100,000
- Crisis Intervention and Public Information Society of Greater Victoria – $ 83,300
- Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society – $ 75,000
- Victoria Native Friendship Centre – $ 151,000
- 1Up Victoria Single Parent Resource Centre Society – 96,750
- Victoria Sexual Assault Centre Society – $ 165,000
- Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island – $ 195,425
- Fateh Care Charity Society – $ 25,000
“Oak Bay and Gordon Head have a small but mighty group of organizations that people in our neighbourhoods can rely on for help when they need it,” said Murray Rankin, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head. “I’m pleased our government is able to help these organizations with grant funding for their work.”
The $61 million in funding this year for human and social services grants comes out of the $140 million distributed annually to not-for-profit organizations that deliver other essential services and make life better for people in British Columbia.
“Our community’s social services work is important for everyone, not only those who are served by their work, but their family, friends, and loved ones,” said Rob Fleming, MLA for Victoria-Swan Lake. “We’re supporting this work through giving grants to 113 organizations right here in our region.”
