Grants will support local organizations in delivering vital programs for people in Courtenay and Comox says MLA Leonard
COMOX VALLEY – Local organizations will continue to deliver programs that improve people’s quality of life thanks to nearly $61 million in Community Gaming Grants for human and social services, says New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard.
“Courtenay and Comox have so many outstanding organizations doing the work to serve our community on the ground, improving lives and making a change,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “When we support these organizations, we support our community to thrive.”
Thirty-two organizations in the region are receiving $905,375 in funding for human and social services, such as meeting the needs of under-served groups, providing public outreach and education, and more, including:
- Stepping Stones Recovery House for Women Society – $ 66,000
- Comox Valley Head Injury Society – $ 23,000
- Lake Trail Community Education Society – $ 42,500
- LUSH Valley Food Action Society – $ 94,000
The $61 million in funding this year for human and social services grants comes out of the $140 million distributed annually to not-for-profit organizations that deliver other essential services and make life better for people in British Columbia.
