NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh made the following statement regarding the House of Commons end of session:

‘Over the last year, Canadians have seen that when you send New Democrats to Ottawa, people get results.

New Democrats used their power to put money back in people’s pocket and to keep Trudeau’s Liberals accountable.

One of our proudest achievements this session was making significant strides in winning dental care for all Canadians. We secured dental care for seniors, children under 18 and people living with a disability that will save families more than $1,200 a year. We forced the Liberals to introduce the Early Learning Child Care Act and a Sustainable Jobs Act in order to ensure workers have access to affordable child care and to good-paying union jobs as we move toward a net-zero economy. We also delivered a second GST rebate that will put almost $500 in people’s pockets this summer. We fought against grocery greedflation that is straining your family’s budget, and we delivered much-needed funding for Indigenous housing across the country.

This session, we have tabled our own bill to provide a framework for a public and universal pharmacare program which would provide free medication for all.

Many Canadians are still struggling with the sky-high prices of groceries, unaffordable rent and mortgages that have increased by hundreds of dollars almost overnight. This is unacceptable.

Canadians need a government that works for them and their families not just the ultra-wealthy at the very top. Liberals and Conservatives are still ignoring the corporate greed of rich CEOs that are driving up costs for hardworking people. And New Democrats will keep fighting to change that until we form government.

This summer, my team and I will meet with Canadians to discuss the issues that matter most to you and ensure solutions are brought forward. The NDP will continue to fight for Canadians regardless of how tough the battle might be. We will ensure your voices are heard, your needs are met, and our shared vision of a more sustainable, and prosperous Canada becomes a reality.’’
