NDP MLA Paddon says funding for emergency response and recovery will keep people safer
KENT – New Democrat MLA Kelli Paddon says that emergency response and recovery efforts will be strengthened with funding for local emergency operations centres in the Fraser Valley
“Flooding, fires and landslides are top of mind for people who live here, and we want to help them be as prepared as possible,” said Kelli Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent. “This funding will help communities fill gaps where needed in their emergency response planning, so they can be even more prepared if an emergency occurs.”
The following local governments and First Nations are receiving funding in the Fraser Valley:
- Fraser Valley Regional District- EOC and Training Information Officer Capability- $30,000
- Harrison Hot Springs: EOC Technology Upgrades- $29, 371
- Kent: Training and Equipment- $29,371
- Skawahlook First Nation: Sq’ewa:lxw EOC Supplies and Equipment- $27,151
- Seabird Island First Nation: Traning and Equipment- $30,000
Nearly $3 million in funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is going to over 100 local governments and First Nations across B.C. The funding will assist in purchasing and installing equipment and supplies to maintain or improve emergency operations centres.
Emergency operations centres are an essential part of emergency response, where representatives come together to co-ordinate actions and resources, and to support people responding on the ground.
