BIA BC Conference Stage

The past week was a busy one for BIAs across BC, Alberta and beyond as we hosted the Regional Annual Conference in Victoria BC.

As you well know by now, BIAs across the province have been very vocal on our concerns over criminality, health, and safety reforms. Our Policy Committee have been actively lobbying government officials on these fronts, as well as working through a grant program request to cover both the costs of vandalism, as well as the adoption of crime prevention strategies and tools. We had hoped to be able to announce this grant fund at the conference, however, timing did not line up, as details still need to be discussed and formalized.

What DID happen at the conference was huge for the BIAs of BC and our regional partners, the Premier addressed our membership.

Over the last four years, our hard work on advocacy and building relationships led to the half hour keynote with Premier Eby, as well as a commitment to continue to work with BIAs, who he sees as a grass roots partner, leading for business.

We (Kamloops) were also pleased to be confirmed as the host city for the 2024 BIA BC Regional Conference. This event, led by Downtown Kamloops will be a partnership with us here on the North Shore as we demonstrate to our region why Kamloops shines; how our collaborative approach leads to greater outcomes for our members and City; and hopefully a high level of engagement with our Tk’emlups friends.

We will be meeting with our community partners in the coming weeks to begin the process of building a world class experience for our Delegates. We are looking forward to working with Tourism Kamloops and all of our attractions to highlight our amazing city. Stay tuned for more on this.
