NDP MLA Raj Chouhan says innovative project in Burnaby will help tackle plastic waste
BURNABY – New Democrat MLA Raj Chouhan says new funding to Vitacore in Burnaby will help tackle plastic waste.
“Turning used plastics into new products keeps our communities clean while creating new jobs for people here at home,” says Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds. “I am pleased to see funding support for Vitacore’s new recycling program, which processes over 12 million pieces of used personal protective equipment a month.”
Vitacore is receiving funding for equipment upgrades and building retrofit, which will help serve as the hub of the company’s PPE recycling program. The project will receive $900,000 from the Clean BC Plastics Action Fund.
Other projects supported by the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund have helped turn plastics from old car batteries into new ones, develop artificial intelligence to sort recycling, and support local micro-recycling facilities.
This funding is an important part of the CleanBC Plastics Action Plan and a key piece to the New Democrat’s strategy to tackle climate change – putting B.C. on the path to a brighter, low-carbon future while creating new jobs and economic opportunities for people.
