Science Revealed Dean’s Lecture Series with Dr. James Olson – TRU Newsroom
Dean of Science Dr. Greg Anderson invites faculty, staff, students and members of the Kamloops community to the next lecture in his Science Revealed Dean’s Lecture Series.
Dr. James Olson (‘86) presents The Future of Engineering and Its Role in Meeting the Challenge of Climate and Equity. He examines climate change and the current climate crisis through the lens of the most vulnerable communities in BC. Olson makes the case that the interconnected challenge of equity and climate is wickedly complex and existential. He presents a framework to describe the programmatic response of engineering research and education to this existential challenge, then extends the framework to propose future education and innovation programs and initiatives. The framework and future programming will be highlighted with examples of current research and educational initiatives at UBC.
The Science Revealed Dean’s Lecture Series publicly celebrates our Cariboo College, University College of the Cariboo and TRU science alumni and the ways in which they have discovered the world.
Dr. James Olson is dean of the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC. He is heavily involved in forest sector innovation and has received many awards for his research including two NSERC Synergy Awards and the 2008 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Innovation.
