NDP Tri-City MLAs say grants will support local organizations and keep people and the environment safe
TRI-CITIES – New Democrat MLAs Fin Donnelly, Selina Robinson, and Mike Farnworth say local organizations will be able to protect local ecosystems and keep people safe thanks to $237,500 from the Community Gaming Grants program for environmental and public safety initiatives.
“We’re lucky to enjoy beautiful parks, accessible trails, and essential watersheds in our region,” said Fin Donnelly, MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary for Watershed Restoration. “I’m pleased our government is committed to supporting local organizations who work tirelessly to protect local watersheds and ensure people can enjoy the outdoors safely.”
In the Tri-Cities, the following community organizations are receiving funding for public safety work, which can include restorative justice, firefighting, search and rescue, emergency preparedness and community safety.
- Coquitlam Search and Rescue Society – $60,000.00
- Communities Embracing Restorative Action (CERA) Society – $60,000.00
- Canadian Ski Patrol System – Greater Vancouver Zone – $22,500.00
The following local organizations are receiving funding for environmental initiatives, such as animal protection, conservation, and environmental awareness programs:
- Green Bricks Education Society – $37,000.00
- Coastal Partners in Conservation Society – $26,000.00
- RSBC Rivershed Society of British Columbia – $25,000.00
- British Columbia Lake Stewardship Society – $7,000.00
“The Canadian Ski Patrol System, Communities Embracing Restorative Action (CERA) Society, and Green Bricks Education Society are shining examples of the kind of grassroots organizations that make a real difference in our communities” said Selina Robinson, MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville” “By supporting these organizations, we are supporting the critical work they do to keep our communities safe, foster social justice, and promote environmental education and sustainability.”
More than $12 million in new funding for public safety and environment programs will support 281 non-profit organizations that are helping make life better for people throughout B.C.
“Keeping our wetlands and green spaces healthy benefits the health of everyone in the community,” said Mike Farnworth, MLA for Port Coquitlam. “That’s why we’re investing in local organizations so they can continue the vital work of environmental conservation.”
