VANCOUVER – New Democrat MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert says more people in Vancouver will be able to safely and conveniently choose active transportation to get around, thanks to provincial funding for new active transportation infrastructure.

“The way we move is changing, and our government is excited to support this active transition,” said Spencer Chandra Herbert, MLA for Vancouver-West End. “Bringing new chargers for e-scooters and e-bikes to Vancouver will power a cleaner, healthier commute in our community.”

In Vancouver the following projects are receiving provincial Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants:

  • Power Connections for Micromobility Services – $500,000 to allow the charging of e-bikes and e-scooters with 10 locations across the City of Vancouver
  • Bringing Regional e-Bike Share to the UBC Vancouver Campus – $500,000 for the installation of 10 electrified bike share stations, fully integrated with the City of Vancouver’s Mobi by Shaw Go

74 new infrastructure and planning projects in communities all around B.C. are receiving funding as part of this round of provincial grants. These include projects like multi-use pathways, bike lanes, pedestrian bridges, and improvements to lighting, sidewalks, and road quality and safety.

By partnering with local and Indigenous governments to fund these projects, the province is giving more people the option to use active transportation in their daily travel. Making these options more accessible supports the province’s CleanBC commitments to increase trips by walking, cycling, and transit by 30% by 2030.
