NDP MP Leah Gazan calls for federal funding for a 24/7 safe space in Winnipeg – June 14, 2022

June 14, 2022 at 6:57 am  Federal, Politics

At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Leah Gazan, the NDP critic for women and gender equality and the MP for Winnipeg Centre, urges the federal government to provide funding for a 24/7 low-barrier safe space in Winnipeg for women, girls, and gender-diverse people. Her calls for a safe space for those fleeing violence comes after five Indigenous women died due to failing systems in the past few weeks in Winnipeg alone. She is joined by Dodie Jordaan, the executive director of Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc., and by Hilda Anderson-Pyrz, the chair of the National Family and Survivors Circle.
