N.L. premier announces agreement with University of Ottawa Heart Institute – May 12, 2022

In St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey announces a memorandum of understanding has been reached between the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). The agreement allows for patients to travel from the province to Ottawa for cardiac surgery as a temporary measure to address surgical backlogs. The premier is joined by John Haggie (provincial minister of health), ERHA representatives David Diamond (president and CEO) and Dr. Sean Connors (clinical chief of cardiac care), as well as UOHI representatives Dr. Thierry Mesana (president and CEO) and Dr. Marc Ruel (cardiac surgery).
