Agriculture sector discusses impact of CP Rail work stoppage – March 21, 2022

March 21, 2022 at 12:54 pm  Federal, Politics

Bob Lowe (president, Canadian Cattlemen’s Association), Erin Gowriluk (executive director, Grain Growers of Canada), Clyde Graham (executive vice-president, Fertilizer Canada), and James Bekkering (chair, National Cattle Feeders’ Association) speak with reporters on Parliament Hill about the impact that a prolonged work stoppage involving Canadian Pacific Railway would have on their commodity groups and existing supply chain delays. They are calling on the federal government to intervene and introduce back-to-work legislation immediately. Kody Blois, Liberal MP for Kings – Hants, N.S. and chair of the House of Commons agriculture committee, also takes part in the news conference. More than 3,000 workers are off the job after the railway and the union representing conductors, engineers, train and yard workers failed to reach an agreement on a new contract by a March 20 deadline.
