Pushing the Boundaries of Accessibility
Jennifer Mei is a Registered Social worker and the Accessibility Experiential Learning Coordinator in the Career and Experiential Learning Department. In this role, Jennifer develops initiatives to support students with employment barriers transition into the workplace. She recently received an Award for Outstanding Graduate Work for her research on post-secondary students’ mental health disclosure experiences transitioning into a professional or experiential learning environment. Jennifer has over a decade of experience working in Equity Diversity Inclusion and Decolonization with specific expertise in career accessibility.
As many of us return to in-person classrooms and workplaces amid a pandemic, it’s more important than ever we recognize the impact that mental health has on our academic and career success. In this workshop, Mei will discuss the intersectional experiences of post-secondary students who are faced with a decision to disclose mental health challenges. She will also provide tips for overcoming accommodation barriers. As part of the learning, Mei will also dive into the real meaning of buzzwords/acronyms such as privilege, microaggressions, EDID, JEDI, and BIPOC as related to accessibility.
