Adopt-A-Road/Trail Program Returns | City of Kamloops

May 31, 2021 at 9:04 am  Kamloops, Municipal, News

Kamloops, BC – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City’s Adopt-A-Road/Trail program was suspended over this past year. In accordance with current provincial public health guidelines, the City is now able to resume the program, with a start date of June 1, 2021.

The Adopt-A-Road/Trail program facilitates community enhancement by providing private organizations, clubs, and citizens the opportunity to assist the City in keeping our community beautiful and helping the environment by volunteering their labour to pick up litter and debris along street frontages and nature park trails. This involvement helps the City to provide a higher level of service.

Over the years, this program has been very successful in promoting community enhancement and building community pride. The program, which has been in existence since the 1980s, currently has 127 groups and individuals associated with 38 trails and 50 kms of municipal roads. Volunteers take stewardship of their adopted section of at least 1 km of roadway or one trail within a city nature park.

Roadside safety supply kits are provided by the City and trash pickup is arranged by the Civic Operations department. Volunteer groups are asked to comply with BC’s public health guidelines when doing cleanups.

The City of Kamloops gratefully acknowledges the numerous volunteers, organizations, and businesses that participate in keeping our streets and road sides clean with signage on their adopted section of the networks.
