(Kamloops) We regret to advise that the Annual “Know Your Neighbour Day Walk planned for October 24, 2020 at Riverside Park is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Protecting the health and safety of our community is our priority.
The “Know Your Neighbour Walk” was started in 2012, by members of the local Sikh community honouring the birthdate of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh religion, and his universal message of our common humanity. The Walk was initiated as a way of bringing peoples together in a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, toward building bridges to mutual understanding and friendship. Our commitment to inclusion, diversity and human rights is strengthened in the face of rising intolerance and prejudice. The BLM and anti-racism movements of recent months have brought increased focus on systemic racism and the rise of hate groups and extremist ideologies. We invite peoples of all backgrounds, creeds, and ethnicities to unite together in solidarity and friendly relations for human rights, equity, inclusion and strength in diversity.
Although, we have had to cancel this year’s Walk, we invite and urge everyone to check on their neighbours in the spirit of caring, friendship and solidarity represented by “Know Your Neighbour Day”.
We are proud to promote the friendly and welcoming spirit of the City of Kamloops and look forward to organizing the biggest and most successful “Know Your Neighbour Day Walk” in 2021.
