Co-op Cafe September 30th: Sustainable Energy Cooperatives

September 29, 2020 at 8:59 am  Community, Kamloops

Defined by Wikipedia, renewable energy is “energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlightwindraintideswaves, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in four important areas: electricity generationair and water heating/coolingtransportation, and rural (off-grid) energy services.

There are groups dedicated to providing access to renewable energy resources and September’s Co-op Café will review the Community Generation Project Incubator that helped twenty communities move from being interested in renewable energy to creating clear roadmaps for generating renewable energy that create community benefit. This includes the creation of three co-ops! This presentation will provide an overview of community scale renewable energy generation, learning modules in the project incubator, and discuss the related co-op development. Challenges and Opportunities in the community generation space will also be discussed.

Join Seth Leon from the Alberta Co-op Association and Joey O’Brien of the Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative on Wednesday September 30th from 6-8 pm (PST) to learn more about Sustainable Energy Co-operatives.  These sessions are hosted by the Kamloops Public Market Co-operative, sponsored by Co-operatives First and powered by the BC Co-operative Association
