Effective date: August 4, 2026
Last updated: August 4, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your accessgs, user accounts, submission forms, reviews, comments, messaging features, advertising services, and other features made available through the website.

KamloopsCity.com is operated by Kamloops ePublishing, referred to in these Terms as “KamloopsCity.com,” “we,” “us,” or “our.”

By accessing or using KamloopsCity.com, creating an account, submitting content, or purchasing a service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the website.

1. About KamloopsCity.com

KamloopsCity.com is an independent community information portal serving Kamloops and the surrounding area. It may provide:

  • Business, organization, attraction, and location listings
  • Community news and information
  • Event listings
  • User accounts and profiles
  • Comments, reviews, and messaging features
  • Business and event submission tools
  • Paid listings, advertising, sponsorships, and promotional services
  • Links to third-party websites and services

KamloopsCity.com is not an official website of the City of Kamloops, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the Province of British Columbia, or any other government body. References to government services, public facilities, elected officials, public notices, or community programs do not indicate an official relationship or endorsement.

2. Eligibility and authority

You must be legally capable of entering into an agreement to use account, submission, advertising, or payment features.

If you are under the age of majority in British Columbia, you may only use features that create legal or financial obligations with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

If you use KamloopsCity.com on behalf of a business, organization, event, or other person, you represent that you have authority to act for them and to accept these Terms on their behalf.

3. User accounts

Some features may require an account.

When creating or using an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and current information
  • Keep your account information reasonably up to date
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your password and login credentials
  • Use only an account that belongs to you or that you are authorized to manage
  • Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission
  • Accept responsibility for activity conducted through your account, except where caused by our own failure to use reasonable safeguards

You must not impersonate another person or organization, create an account using misleading information, sell or transfer an account without permission, or use another person’s account without authorization.

We may require account verification or additional information before approving submissions, account changes, listing claims, advertising, or other activities.

4. Community submissions

Users may be able to submit businesses, locations, organizations, events, articles, photographs, corrections, reviews, comments, messages, or other material.

You remain responsible for anything you submit or communicate through KamloopsCity.com.

By submitting content, you represent that:

  1. The information is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  2. You have the right and authority to submit it.
  3. The content does not violate another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.
  4. Required permissions and releases have been obtained from identifiable people, property owners, photographers, creators, or organizations where applicable.
  5. The submission is not unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory, deceptive, or malicious.
  6. The submission does not contain malware, harmful code, unauthorized advertising, or attempts to collect information improperly.

Submitting something does not guarantee that it will be published, remain published, or appear in a particular location or format.

5. Licence for submitted content

You retain ownership of the original content you submit.

By submitting content to KamloopsCity.com, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, communicate, resize, crop, format, and otherwise use that content for the following purposes:

  • Operating and displaying KamloopsCity.com
  • Promoting the website, a listing, an event, or the submitted content
  • Creating previews, thumbnails, social media posts, newsletters, and search results
  • Moderating, organizing, backing up, and improving the website
  • Correcting spelling, formatting, categorization, and obvious factual or technical errors

This licence continues for as long as the content remains on the website and for a reasonable backup or archival period afterward.

We will not claim ownership of your original content merely because you submitted it. Where reasonably practical, we will not materially alter the meaning of editorial or creative content without permission.

You may request removal of content you submitted. Removal may not always be possible where the content has been incorporated into a community discussion, legal record, completed advertising service, backup, or other material that we are entitled or required to retain.

6. Business, organization, and location listings

KamloopsCity.com may create or publish listings using information provided by listing owners, users, public sources, direct research, or other lawful sources.

The existence of a listing does not mean that the listed business, organization, location, or person:

  • Submitted or approved the listing
  • Has a commercial relationship with KamloopsCity.com
  • Is endorsed or recommended by KamloopsCity.com
  • Has verified every detail in the listing

Authorized representatives may be allowed to claim, correct, or manage listings. We may request reasonable evidence of identity, ownership, employment, or authority before granting control.

We may edit listing content to improve formatting, clarity, categorization, consistency, accessibility, or accuracy. We may decline requested changes when we believe they would make a listing inaccurate, misleading, promotional beyond the applicable service level, or inconsistent with our editorial standards.

7. Event listings

Event organizers and submitters are responsible for ensuring that event information is accurate, including dates, times, locations, admission requirements, accessibility information, age restrictions, ticket availability, cancellation details, and costs.

Events may be changed, postponed, cancelled, or sold out without notice to us. Before travelling, purchasing tickets, or making plans, users should confirm important information directly with the event organizer or venue.

Publication of an event does not mean that KamloopsCity.com organizes, sponsors, supervises, endorses, or assumes responsibility for the event.

8. Reviews, comments, and public discussions

Reviews and comments should describe genuine experiences or contribute meaningfully to the community.

You must not post:

  • Reviews of a business, employer, organization, or competitor when you have an undisclosed conflict of interest
  • Reviews submitted in exchange for compensation without appropriate disclosure
  • False or fabricated experiences
  • Personal attacks, threats, harassment, or hate-based content
  • Private personal information, including private addresses, phone numbers, identification numbers, or financial information
  • Unsupported allegations of criminal, fraudulent, or seriously improper conduct
  • Repeated, irrelevant, or promotional content
  • Material intended to manipulate ratings, discussions, or public perception

Businesses and organizations may respond to criticism, but may not threaten, intimidate, expose private information about, or retaliate against reviewers through the website.

We may moderate, restrict, edit, hide, or remove content. Moderation decisions may consider relevance, accuracy, safety, legality, community value, context, and available evidence. We are not required to investigate or resolve every disagreement.

A decision to leave content online does not mean that we agree with or endorse it.

9. Private messages and communications

Where messaging features are available, you must use them lawfully and respectfully.

You must not use KamloopsCity.com to:

  • Send spam or repetitive promotional messages
  • Harass, threaten, deceive, or impersonate others
  • Request passwords, financial credentials, or unnecessary sensitive information
  • Distribute malware or suspicious links
  • Scrape, harvest, or compile user contact information
  • Conduct unlawful sales, fraud, or other prohibited transactions

Do not treat website messaging as an emergency service or a guaranteed confidential communications system. We may access, preserve, or disclose communications where reasonably necessary to operate the service, investigate abuse, enforce these Terms, protect users, comply with legal obligations, or respond to lawful requests.

10. Paid listings, advertisements, and sponsorships

KamloopsCity.com may sell advertising, sponsored placement, enhanced listings, promoted events, subscription services, or other paid features.

The price, duration, included features, applicable taxes, and any recurring billing terms will be presented when the service is ordered or described in a separate written agreement.

Payment does not guarantee:

  • A particular number of views, clicks, enquiries, registrations, or sales
  • A particular search-engine position
  • Acceptance of content that violates these Terms
  • Positive reviews or editorial coverage
  • Exclusive placement unless expressly agreed in writing
  • Continuous or uninterrupted availability

Sponsored or paid content may be identified using labels such as “Sponsored,” “Featured,” “Promoted,” “Partner,” or similar wording.

Paid placement does not give an advertiser control over independent editorial content, community reviews, moderation decisions, or unpaid search results.

11. Advertising standards

Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that their advertisements, landing pages, offers, and claims are accurate, lawful, and not misleading.

Advertisements must not:

  • Misrepresent prices, discounts, availability, qualifications, endorsements, or results
  • Infringe intellectual property or privacy rights
  • Promote unlawful products, services, or conduct
  • Contain malicious software or deceptive links
  • Discriminate unlawfully
  • Impersonate another person, business, or organization
  • Conceal material conditions that a reasonable customer would need to understand the offer
  • Violate applicable election, political advertising, consumer protection, competition, or marketing laws

We may reject, suspend, label, reposition, or remove advertising that we reasonably believe is unlawful, misleading, harmful, technically unsuitable, or inconsistent with the website’s community purpose.

12. Payments, renewals, cancellations, and refunds

You agree to pay all charges and applicable taxes shown when you purchase a paid service.

Payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider. Your use of that provider may also be governed by its terms and privacy practices.

A service will renew automatically only when automatic renewal is clearly disclosed as part of the purchase. Where a recurring service applies:

  • You authorize the applicable recurring charge
  • You may cancel future renewals through the provided account or contact method
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period unless otherwise stated
  • You remain responsible for charges incurred before cancellation

Except where a different refund policy is stated during purchase, fees are non-refundable after the paid service has been delivered or the advertising period has begun. We may provide a full or partial refund, service credit, replacement advertising period, or other remedy at our discretion when a service was not provided substantially as described.

Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, cancellation, chargeback, or other right that cannot legally be excluded.

13. Communications and marketing

We may send transactional communications concerning your account, submissions, purchases, security, moderation matters, or changes to the service.

Promotional electronic messages will be sent in accordance with applicable consent and identification requirements. You may unsubscribe from promotional messages using the unsubscribe method included in the message.

Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending necessary account, security, payment, legal, or service communications.

14. Prohibited use

You must not:

  1. Use the website for an unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or deceptive purpose.
  2. Attempt to bypass security, access controls, payment requirements, or moderation systems.
  3. Interfere with the operation, security, performance, or availability of the website.
  4. Upload malware, destructive code, or content designed to compromise a device or account.
  5. Use bots, scrapers, crawlers, or automated tools in a manner that places an unreasonable load on the website or violates our instructions.
  6. copy or compile substantial portions of our directory, event database, or other content to create or support a competing service.
  7. Use website content or data to train an artificial intelligence system without our written permission.
  8. Harvest email addresses, contact information, reviews, or user profiles.
  9. Manipulate votes, ratings, views, rankings, engagement, or other website measurements.
  10. Falsely claim affiliation with KamloopsCity.com.
  11. Remove copyright, trademark, attribution, sponsored-content, or other notices.
  12. Encourage another person to violate these Terms.

General-purpose search engines may index publicly available pages in accordance with standard technical instructions.

15. Intellectual property

Except for user-submitted content and third-party material, KamloopsCity.com and its original website content, design, branding, databases, graphics, software, organization, and selection of material are owned by or licensed to us.

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the website for lawful personal or internal business purposes.

You may link to publicly accessible pages provided that the link does not falsely suggest endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or approval.

You may not reproduce, republish, sell, license, distribute, scrape, or commercially exploit a substantial portion of the website without written permission.

16. Copyright and rights complaints

If you believe content on KamloopsCity.com violates your copyright, privacy, trademark, or other legal rights, contact us with:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Identification of the affected work, information, or legal right
  • The location of the disputed content
  • An explanation of the issue
  • A statement describing your ownership or authority
  • Any supporting information reasonably required to assess the complaint

We may forward relevant portions of a complaint to the person who submitted the disputed content, where appropriate and legally permitted.

Submitting a false or misleading complaint may result in account restrictions or other consequences.

17. Third-party websites and services

KamloopsCity.com may contain links, maps, embedded media, social login tools, payment services, ticketing services, advertisements, and other features supplied by third parties.

We do not control and are not responsible for the availability, security, accuracy, terms, privacy practices, products, services, or conduct of third parties.

A link or integration does not necessarily mean that we endorse the third party. You are responsible for reviewing the applicable terms before using an external service or completing a transaction.

18. Information and service disclaimer

KamloopsCity.com is provided for general community information and convenience.

Although we try to provide useful and accurate information, we do not guarantee that every listing, event, article, review, address, map, schedule, price, link, warning, or other item is complete, accurate, current, or suitable for a particular purpose.

The website is not a substitute for:

  • Official government notices
  • Emergency alerts or emergency services
  • Direct confirmation from a business, venue, organizer, or service provider
  • Professional legal, medical, financial, safety, or other advice

For emergencies, contact the appropriate emergency service directly. Do not rely on KamloopsCity.com as your only source of urgent weather, wildfire, evacuation, road, air-quality, water, public-health, or safety information.

Your interactions and transactions with businesses, advertisers, event organizers, users, and other third parties are between you and those parties.

19. Availability and website changes

We may add, modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any part of KamloopsCity.com.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation. Maintenance, updates, technical failures, malicious activity, hosting interruptions, third-party failures, or events beyond our reasonable control may affect availability.

We are not required to preserve every account, message, submission, review, listing, or website feature indefinitely.

20. Account suspension and termination

You may stop using KamloopsCity.com at any time. You may request account closure using the contact information below.

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate an account or access to the website where we reasonably believe that:

  • These Terms have been violated
  • The account creates a security or legal risk
  • Content or activity may harm another person
  • Payment is overdue, disputed, reversed, or fraudulent
  • The account has been inactive for an extended period
  • The action is reasonably necessary to protect the website or community

Where reasonable, we may provide notice or an opportunity to correct the issue. Immediate action may be taken for serious abuse, fraud, security threats, unlawful conduct, or urgent risk.

Termination does not cancel obligations that arose before termination.

21. Privacy

Our collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of personal information are described in our Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy forms part of your relationship with KamloopsCity.com but does not reduce any rights provided by applicable privacy law.

You should not submit another person’s private information unless you have a lawful reason and any required permission to do so.

22. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KamloopsCity.com is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

We disclaim warranties and conditions that are not expressly stated in these Terms, including implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted availability.

This section does not exclude warranties or protections that cannot legally be excluded.

23. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KamloopsCity.com and its operator, owners, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, business opportunities, goodwill, reputation, data, or anticipated savings arising from use of the website.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims relating to the website or a paid service will not exceed the greater of:

  1. The amount you paid directly to KamloopsCity.com for the service giving rise to the claim during the 12 months before the claim arose; or
  2. One hundred Canadian dollars.

These limitations apply regardless of the form of the claim, but do not apply where liability cannot legally be limited, including liability arising from fraud, intentional wrongdoing, or any other matter that applicable law prohibits us from excluding.

24. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless KamloopsCity.com and its operator from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from:

  • Content you submit
  • Advertising or offers you provide
  • Your infringement of another person’s rights
  • Your unlawful use of the website
  • A material breach of these Terms

This obligation applies only to the extent the claim was caused by your conduct and does not require you to indemnify us for our own negligence, intentional wrongdoing, or violation of law.

25. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in British Columbia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Subject to any mandatory consumer right or other law requiring a different forum, disputes relating to these Terms or KamloopsCity.com will be brought before a court of competent jurisdiction in British Columbia, with venue in Kamloops where legally permitted.

Before starting a court proceeding, the parties are encouraged to attempt to resolve the dispute through written communication. This does not prevent either party from seeking urgent relief or exercising a right before a limitation period expires.

26. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the website, services, business practices, or legal requirements.

The revised Terms will be posted with a new effective date. Where a change materially affects registered users or paid services, we may also provide notice through the website, account, or email.

Changes will apply prospectively from their stated effective date. Where applicable law requires express consent to a change, we will request that consent.

27. General provisions

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect, and the affected provision will be interpreted or limited to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.

Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision.

You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written permission. We may transfer these Terms as part of a reorganization, sale, merger, financing, or transfer of the website or its operations, subject to applicable law.

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any purchase-specific terms shown when ordering a service form the entire agreement concerning your use of KamloopsCity.com. Purchase-specific terms will control only where they expressly conflict with these Terms regarding the purchased service.

Headings are included for convenience and do not change the meaning of these Terms.

Sections that reasonably need to continue after account closure or termination will survive, including provisions concerning intellectual property, submitted-content licences, payments, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and disputes.
