Tod Mountain End-of Summer Loop

Tod Mountain End-of Summer Loop

We took the chairlift to mid-station at Sun Peaks and hiked a loop route on the upper slopes of Tod Mountain.

Most of the wildflowers were past the prime season, but there were a few late-flowering varieties in alpine meadows along the route.  A few shrubs and perennials were starting to show fall colors already.

We chose a combination of trails that maximized views, but minimized up and down, except for the initial climb up the Top of the World Trail.    From there we hiked the Westridge Trail, but when we arrived at the bottom of the final hill to the summit of Tod Mountain, but we chose to take a different route back.

We looped back on the West Bowl Trail.

Our loop route was 8.5 km and was a route we would gladly do again.   Next year we hope to hike the trails on Tod Mountain earlier, as long as heat, forest fires, and smoke don’t overwhelm the hills again.
