Sign hung on fence that says VOTE

The Transition Kamloops 2025 Candidate Cheat Sheet is here!

Transition Kamloops  April 16, 2025 at 9:08 am

Our federal election voters’ guides are now out! These two riding-specific tools are intended to help voters decide who to give a green light to on their ballots this April 28.

Voters Guide: Kamloops—Shuswap—Central Rockies

Voters Guide: Kamloops—Thompson—Nicola

Note: if you are having difficulty accessing these Voters Guides as Google docs, please use the PDFs at the bottom of this post.

For candidates, providing constituents with information about what you stand for is critical. It shows respect. We are disappointed that both incumbents, Frank Caputo and Mel Arnold, chose to ignore our requests for their input, leaving us with nothing but their voting records to hold them to account. Fortunately, our volunteers have done the research, and those records provide a clear picture of their positions.

We would particularly like to thank the five federal candidates who took the time to respond to our survey.

Our survey questions were developed in collaboration with: Armstrong Spallumcheen Climate Action, Chase and Area Farmers Institute, Chase Environmental Action Society, Kamloops Food Policy Council, Kamloops Naturalist Club, Palestine Solidarity Kamloops, Propolis Housing Cooperative, Shuswap Climate Action Society, Shuswap Food Action Society, and Speak Up Self-Advocacy Awareness Society. We value their input and thank them for helping bring forward issues of interest and concern to their members.

We decided against grading the candidates, instead choosing to include all candidate responses verbatim. We also supplemented the guides with the voting records of the two incumbent MPs, Frank Caputo and Mel Arnold.

You can vote as early as this Friday, and all through the weekend. Just remember that boundaries have changed since the last election so make sure you know which riding you’re in! Use this Election Canada tool for advance voting dates and times, polling locations, and other useful information.

A few reminders:

Canada election 2025: Federal leaders English-language debate is this Thursday, April 17.

Advance voting starts Friday, April 18.

Kamloops and area virtual Federal Election Forum is on Tuesday, April 22.

The 49th Rally for Peace, Social Justice, and the Environment will be held on Saturday, April 26th from 10 am to 12:30 pm at the Farmers’ Market, Stuart Wood schoolground, and we will also have a booth there. Apparently the federal candidates have been invited to make an appearance at the Farmers’ Market. Lots of great reasons to come out!

Monday, April 28th — Election Day!

Transition Kamloops

Transition Kamloops is a volunteer-driven, registered not-for-profit society focused on increasing local resilience and self-sufficiency in food, water, energy, culture and wellness. We emphasize a local economy, healthy ecosystems, and grassroots community building, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. We believe in a better way: a community that sustains life in all its diversity, strives for equality and justice and invests in the future.

Transition Kamloops recognizes that we are living on Secwépemcul’ecw—land that was never ceded to settlers, and continues to be home to vibrant Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions. We acknowledge the impact of colonization, forced displacement, and ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples. We commit to listening, learning, and building positive relationships with Indigenous communities as we work towards reconciliation.
