On the Snow in the Upper Grasslands
In the hills to the south at the upper end of the grasslands are some routes we can only do in winter. These routes will not be specified here and interested hikers or snowshoers will have to explore the areas on their own. All of the routes start on public roads, then head off on snowed-in backroads. If fences or gates are closed and/or signed, we don’t proceed, instead veering off to follow snowmobile or snowshoe tracks on double tracks and single tracks into the hills.
On this day I followed a route I have been doing in winter for decades, past an old homestead.
