McConnell Hill Hike – KamloopsTrails
When the weather turns hot we continue to hike, but we take some measures:
- We get an early start (8:00 am for this one).
- We hike at higher altitudes (1325 m or 4347 ft. for the trailhead at Stake Lake)
- We pick routes that are more moderate (in both climb and in distance and have forested/shaded sections.
On a hot day we met early and hiked an 8.35 km route on the Stake Lake Trails over and around McConnell Hill.
We hiked on forested double tracks to the Rustler Trail, then followed a single track (snowshoe trail) up onto McConnell Hill.
Our route followed the south rim of McConnell Hill. We stopped to enjoy views looking south to Lac le Jeune. We could also spot Fred Lake, Rossmoore Lake, and the Bute Lakes to the southeast.
We continued east and hiked down the Sidewinder Trail back to the start. We were finished before the day turned too hot for hiking.
The Stake Lake Trails are an excellent choice for hot weather hiking. An early start is recommended.
