UPDATE: As of July 1, 2024 we have reached our $10,000 goal! Stay tuned for details on when and how to purchase tickets for the Met Opera: Live in HD broadcasts at the Paramount Theatre this fall. Better yet, subscribe to our mailing list for updates! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this campaign. If you donated by cheque, cash, or e-transfer we will be sending out tax receipts before July 15, 2024. Any donations above and beyond $10,000 will be put towards a bursary fund to provide discounted and free tickets to people who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Heidi Muendel and Colleen Stainton volunteered to get grassroots support to bring the Metropolitan Opera (New York) 2024-2025 season HD Livestream to the Paramount.  The season includes Tales of Hoffmann, Aida, Tosca, and Marriage of Figaro.

When we reach our fundraising goal, plans are to:

  • partner with local hotel for pre-Opera breakfast with voice students singing excerpts
  • partner with local cafe to have pre-ordered, quiet food lunches available for pickup
  • have voice students, assigned to study and introduce each Opera giving hints of voice styles etc.
  • have Season Passes available at reduced fares per opera
  • have a series of lectures prior to each opera (similar is done for KSO)
  • other suggestions welcome!

Kamloops Film Society

The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
