KFS Board Corner – The Kamloops Film Society
January 6, 2025
This edition will introduce our paid membership to the KFS Board of Directors and its role within the organization. We hope this provides some valuable insight into the Board’s function and how it contributes to the success of the Kamloops Film Society.
The Board of Directors
The Board’s primary responsibility is to set the Society’s direction and policy. We operate as a governance board, meaning the Paramount Theatre’s staff handles all day-to-day operations. The Board makes decisions on recruitment and hiring our Executive Director, evaluating and supervising their work, setting the strategic goals of the Society, and establishing the annual budget.
Eight directors and a Special Advisor comprise the Board. Prospective directors are evaluated based on their KFS committee involvement and community organization experience. The Board meets bi-monthly, with subcommittees (e.g., Board Development, Finance) meeting regularly. The Executive Director provides reports at each meeting. Directors are encouraged to promote the KFS and participate in community outreach.
We are delighted to welcome two new directors: Seán Donlan, a professor at the TRU Faculty of Law and a lifelong film aficionado, and Robin Goodfellow, a key figure in the local horror scene through the “Drunk in a Graveyard” podcast. We are confident that Seán and Robin will bring valuable insights and a renewed energy to the KFS Board.
Accomplishments
2024 was a year of significant accomplishments for the KFS Board. Following the hiring of a new Executive Director, the Board focused on regrouping and setting a new course for the organization. The KFS successfully brought the Met Opera to the big screen, hosted a Downtown Business Improvement Association Social and offered to enthusiastic approval, a free family holiday movie followed by the Santa Claus Parade live-stream.
These accomplishments demonstrate the Board’s dedication to enriching the cultural life of our community and ensuring the continued success of the KFS.
We’re looking forward to sharing more board activities over the coming year. If you have any questions about the KFS Board, we’ll try and address them in future editions. Email us at [email protected]

Kamloops Film Society
The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
