The KFS board of directors gathered for a one-day retreat in January to build a strategic plan that takes
our organization forward into the next 10 years. Given the tough economic times and peoples’ changing
viewing habits, it was a challenging discussion. At the end of the day, we emerged with a clearer road-
map to help KFS survive and thrive at our Paramount Theatre, and signaled our ongoing support for
independent, inclusive and vibrant film and screen-based events there.

Renewed Mission and Vision Statements emerged from the day’s discussions and I proudly share them
here:

Vision Statement: “We envision a Kamloops where film brings people together and fosters a vibrant, inclusive cultural life.”

Mission Statement: “The Kamloops Film Society brings the world to Kamloops through films, diverse programming and screen-based events at the Paramount Theatre. We support local filmmakers, and collaborate with our community to create inclusive cultural experiences and build a vibrant arts ecosystem.”

The 30th annual Kamloops Film Festival (KFF) was held March 5-14 and board directors pitched in to help promote the festival’s raffle sales at Sahali’s Save-On Foods. Aaron Arseneau, one of our newly-minted directors, was also a member of KFF Committee, and led the festival’s Trivia Night event to great
success.

Kamloops Film Society

The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
