Hillocks and Hummocks Snowshoe – Kamloops Trails
A route that we snowshoe every winter is through the middle grasslands of Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area through the maze of glaciated ridges and gullies, looping to viewpoints on the stomped in paths. We have developed routes over the years, but other snowshoers and hikers now do these loops too, so we can benefit from tracks set by snowshoers in the area to places like the viewpoint over Long Lake.
On this mild winter day the cloudy skies were breaking up as we did the second half of our outing.
Many routes are possible but we like to take in the views of Long Lake, the Grasslands Esker, and Island Lake when we explore the area.
Island Lake is a shallow kettle pond in the benchland basin. It is full of ducks in the spring. We snowshoed on the consolidated snow and ice on the lake.
Our snowshoe loop was km, a pleasant route for a winter’s day:

Doug started exploring this area in 1976 and continues to follow tracks and routes wherever they lead, with the aid of map, compass, GPSr and camera. After many dead-ends, but also many discoveries, he chose to share this information.
The Kamloops Trails website has a massive number of interesting posts and would be of interest to anyone in Kamloops who enjoys the outdoors. Visit the Kamloops Trails website at: http://www.kamloopstrails.ca/
