Help Propel Us Forward: A Carshare Co-op Built by Community
It all started with an idea.
At the Transition Kamloops Climate Action Fest 2.0, local residents were asked to vote for projects that could make a real difference in our community. One of those ideas was a non-profit community carshare co-op. Thanks to your votes and encouragement, Propel Us Carshare Co-op was born.
Since then, we have taken major steps: incorporating as a non-profit cooperative, forming our first board, and launching a feasibility and impact study supported by a City of Kamloops Climate Action Grant. We are now exploring how carsharing could make transportation in Kamloops more affordable and accessible, especially for people who do not drive every day or who find themselves maintaining an extra vehicle just to meet occasional needs.
With a reliable local carshare option, many households could let go of those second or third cars, reducing costs, simplifying their lives, and helping to create a more efficient transportation system for everyone.
We now have a bookkeeper and accountant in place, and two sets of parking spaces on the North Shore are nearly secured pending final contracts. These will become the first home bases for our shared vehicles once we launch. We’ve also been fortunate to work with local grant writers who are helping us secure funding for different parts of our journey, from operations and outreach to infrastructure.
Lately, we have been canvassing door to door on the North Shore near McDonald Park. If you live in that area, you may have seen us. We are asking residents to complete our impact study survey to help shape how this co-op will best serve Kamloops. Every response matters, and we hope you will take part too.
Please take a few minutes to complete our impact study survey here and share it with your friends and neighbours so we can hear from as many people as possible. If you’re interested in becoming a future member, you can also join our waitlist to stay updated as we move closer to launch.
This is still early-stage work, and your feedback will help us move from planning to launch. Thank you for supporting a project created for Kamloops, by Kamloops. We will continue to share milestones as we move toward a pilot phase.
Help us keep the momentum going.

Transition Kamloops
Transition Kamloops is a volunteer-driven, registered not-for-profit society focused on increasing local resilience and self-sufficiency in food, water, energy, culture and wellness. We emphasize a local economy, healthy ecosystems, and grassroots community building, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. We believe in a better way: a community that sustains life in all its diversity, strives for equality and justice and invests in the future.
Transition Kamloops recognizes that we are living on Secwépemcul’ecw—land that was never ceded to settlers, and continues to be home to vibrant Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions. We acknowledge the impact of colonization, forced displacement, and ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples. We commit to listening, learning, and building positive relationships with Indigenous communities as we work towards reconciliation.
