Festival CinéLoops Wrap-Up – The Kamloops Film Society
April 18, 2023
Our first CinéLoops French Film Festival, in partnership with the Kamloops Francophone Association was a hit! We had nearly 1,000 attendees over the three days, at the six films (7 screenings). On opening night, we had a wonderful post film Q&A with Rémy Girard, who appeared in our opening feature, You Will Remember Me.
Friday was an amazing day as we had hundreds of students, from Francophone schools, attend our daytime screenings of Katak the Brave Beluga, Felix and the HiddenTreasure, and Close; and Jamie Shinkewski, the Community Development and Communications Coordinator at the Kamloops Francophone Association and Festival Committee member, put on a great musical performance ahead of the evening screening of Close.
Saturday was the final day, and although we were sad it was over, it went out with a bang! FrancoFunny, students from the Franophone Secondary School, put on an improv performance ahead of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, and Good for You Crêpes joined us for the day to sell delicious crêpes right in the Paramount Lobby. We showed a short film from the National Film Board called A Monk’s Secret about monks who make the famous Oka cheese before Driving Madeline, and had a wine and cheese tasting afterwards as a little afterparty.
Thank you to our festival sponsors, supporters, the Festival Committee, volunteers, Paramount staff, and most importantly, everyone who attended, and we hope to see even more of you next year!
Kamloops Film Society
The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
