Exploring the Batchelor Hill Gold Mine
I hiked up to explore the old gold mine on Batchelor Hill. The first time was in about 1977 and each time I have returned, there is less to see, but since the views are terrific from the top of the hill, it is still worth the effort.
I started at the trailhead area just past Batchelor Lake which is mostly dry now.
The route winds up the top of the eastern hill (not the Tower Hill) where the diggings can be found. There is an article on the mine on this website with some details of the history of the mine – Batchelor Gold Mine.
The exploration included checking out all the diggings, but also the new bike trails, wildflowers, birds, and the views from the top. All photos by the author. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
A YouTube video also shares some of the moments of this hike.
More explorations are ongoing!
