B.C. Premier Eby announces expansion of Red Chris mine – June 19, 2026

June 19, 2026 at 8:01 am  Federal, Politics, Video

British Columbia Premier David Eby holds a press conference in Vancouver to announce government approval for the expansion of the Red Chris mine. The privately-funded project will convert the mine from open-pit to underground block-cave extraction in order to increase its productivity and extend its lifespan.

Also speaking are Jagrub Brar (provincial minister of mining and critical minerals), Kerry Carlick (president, Tahltan Central Government) and Scott Lunny (director, United Steelworkers District 3).

Eby and Carlick take questions on the Red Chris mine, the possibility of new oil pipelines through B.C., the debate on property rights in the wake of the Cowichan Tribes v. Canada ruling, and other topics.
