PM Carney confirms Gordie Howe Bridge opens this week – June 9, 2026

Ministers speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit will open at the end of the week, despite threats from U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year to block it.

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly comments on Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s visit to Washington, D.C. to promote his “Fortress North America” plan. Justice Minister Sean Fraser faces questions on the government’s online harms bill. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne discusses federal loans to airlines struggling with high jet fuel costs.
