Prime Minister Mark Carney and ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

The prime minister comments on the state of the economy amid concerns that Canada has entered into a technical recession. The prime minister faces questions from reporters on the state of CUSMA trade talks with the Trump administration.

Ministers Steven MacKinnon (transport, government House leader), Julie Dabrusin (environment), Lena Diab (immigration) and Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture) respond to questions on the launch of the ministerial advisory council on rights, equality and inclusion, which will be tasked with addressing the rise in antisemitism and combatting racism and discrimination.

Ministers Evan Solomon (AI) and Patty Hadju (jobs and families) are asked about the government’s forthcoming AI strategy, which is set to be released later in the week.

Mackinnon also speaks about opposition from some communities to the Alto high speed rail project.
