Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the National Day of Mourning

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on the National Day of Mourning:

“Canada has always been a nation of builders and doers. For generations, our working men and women created a better Canada for their descendants, and we enjoy the fruits of their efforts today.

“Sadly, these accomplishments have often come at a cost. On the National Day of Mourning, we remember those who left for work and never came home.

“All too frequently, lives were cut short by accidents that should have been prevented. Unions have been tireless advocates in creating a safer Canada for all and led the charge to recognize this day, finally secured under Brian Mulroney in 1984.

“As we pause to remember those who were killed, injured or became sick as a result of their jobs, Conservatives are proud to stand with the extraordinary men and women who worked hard to build the country we know and love.”
