Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Yom HaShoah:

“Every year for two minutes, a nation comes to a halt. At the wail of sirens, traffic stops on highways, servers with plates of food still in their hands stand in place, and those sitting on benches solemnly rise to their feet.

“They pause to remember the horror of the Shoah, the monstrous genocide of the Jewish people that took six million lives. An unimaginable two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population was murdered in the Nazis’ death camps, ghettos, in massacres or on forced marches.

“As years pass, fewer survivors remain among us to share their stories; it is our duty to tell their stories for them. That includes the heroism of the 700 Jewish fighters who resisted their destruction during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

“Our duty to remember remains as we witness the scourge of antisemitism rise throughout the world. From attacks on Synagogues here in Canada to the barbaric attack on Bondi Beach, we are reminded of the importance of standing up every day and every way against this wicked hatred.

“On this day, as we join in the solemn remembrance of the millions of lives taken, we rededicate ourselves to ensuring Canada is a country where Jews can live safely, peacefully and openly. Then and only then will we have lived up to our oath:

“Never Again.”
