Kamloops, BC (March 30, 2026) – The Kamloops Film Society (KFS), in partnership with Canucks Autism Network (CAN) and Social Butterflies, is pleased to announce a free sensory-friendly screening of Inside Out, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, creating an inclusive and welcoming movie experience for children, youth, and families. This special screening is designed for individuals who may benefit from a more relaxed cinema environment.

A sensory-friendly screening includes lower sound levels, softened lighting, and the freedom for audience members to move around or take breaks as needed. The atmosphere is welcoming and judgment-free, allowing families to attend in the way that feels most comfortable.

In addition to the film, families can enjoy free face painting and access to a limited number of fidget kits available to borrow during the event.

“This first sensory-friendly screening at the Paramount Theatre represents a commitment to making cultural experiences accessible for everyone in Kamloops,” said Colette Abbott, Executive Director of the Kamloops Film Society. “We plan to offer more sensory-friendly screenings in the future and continue expanding access so that everyone in our community can enjoy film and cultural events without barriers.”

“At Canucks Autism Network, we know how important it is for families to feel welcomed and included in their communities,” said Colleen Ryan, Kamloops and Kelowna Regional Manager at Canucks Autism Network. “Sensory-friendly events like this create meaningful opportunities for connection, allowing individuals to participate in experiences that might otherwise feel out of reach.”

“We are super excited to partner with CAN and the Kamloops Film Society for this event,” said Nicole Grocock, BCBA at Social Butterflies Activities and Learning Ltd. “We believe every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a family movie day in a safe and inclusive environment. We hope to plan many more similar events in the future to allow families to access community events.”

This event is generously supported by Lighthouse Therapy, Primerica, and BC General Employees Union (BCGEU).

Kamloops Film Society

The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that operates the Paramount Theatre and runs two main events: The Thursday Film Series and the annual March Kamloops Film Festival, which includes the Kamloops Independent Short Shorts Festival. The KFS has been operating for over 45 years and was officially incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 17, 1994. In the spring of 2019, The Kelson Group purchased the Paramount Theatre and leased the venue to the KFS. The support of The Kelson Group and Ron Fawcett has made the venture possible as The KFS continues to make the theatre a cultural venue.
