Equity Training: Mental Health and Supportive Conversations

Join the TRUSU Equity Committee for a free session to strengthen your understanding of mental health and build the confidence to support others in meaningful, responsible ways.

This training will be facilitated by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Kamloops Branch, who bring extensive experience.

Date: Tuesday, March 24

Time: 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Location: TRUSU Lecture Hall

Gain practical tools to navigate supportive conversations while recognizing the importance of boundaries, self-awareness and equity in mental health discussions.

  • Understand mental health as a continuum – recognizing that mental health exists on a spectrum and that experiencing challenges does not automatically mean someone has a mental illness.
  • Psychological health and shared responsibility – examining the role students, staff, and leaders play in creating safer, more supportive campus environments.
  • Equity and mental health – understanding how diversity, inclusion, and lived experience shape mental health outcomes and conversations.
  • Recognizing signs and responding with care – identifying subtle indicators that someone may be struggling and learning practical strategies for having supportive conversations.
  • Sustainable support and self-care – maintaining boundaries, following up appropriately, and building resilience to prevent burnout.

Leave with practical, real-world tools you can apply in and out of classrooms and workplaces.
