Ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. They comment on former NDP MP for Nunavut, Lori Idlout, crossing the floor to join the Liberal caucus.

Speaking about this are Ministers Anita Anand (foreign affairs), Mélanie Joly (industry), Patty Hajdu (jobs and families), Sean Fraser (justice), Mandy Gull-Masty (Indigenous services), Lena Diab (immigration), Rebecca Chartrand (Northern and Arctic affairs), Gary Anandasangaree (public safety), Joël Lightbound (public works and procurement), Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture), François-Philippe Champagne (finance) and Randeep Sarai (secretary of state, international development), as well as MPs James Maloney, Jean-Yves Duclos, Karina Gould, Sophie Chatel Ben Carr, Corey Hogan, Jonathan Wilkinson and Taleeb Noormohamed.

Joly is also asked about the government’s decision to allow social media platform Tiktok to continue to operate in Canada under new rules.

Additionally Anand comments on reports that between 9 and 16 Liberal MPs may support an NDP private member’s bill aimed at tightening Canada’s arms-export controls.

Minister Evan Solomon (AI) faces questions on whether the federal government will unveil a plan for regulating artificial intelligence platforms. This comes in the wake of revelations that OpenAI banned an account associated with the Tumbler Ridge, B.C. shooter last June but failed to alert Canadian authorities.

Minister Tim Hodgson (energy and natural resources) and Hogan respond to questions on what role Canada’s energy industry might be able to play in stabilizing the rising cost of oil.
