Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Lohri:

“Today, families across Punjab and Northern India will gather around the Lohri fire to share stories of Dulla Bhatti. His legacy as a protector of the vulnerable and a champion of the poor is a powerful reminder of the hope, freedom, and resilience at the heart of this celebration.

“As people mark the winter solstice and the arrival of the harvest, homes fill with music, dancing, and the warmth and pride that comes from honest work. Parents and grandparents celebrate the milestones they earned through perseverance – new marriages, new children, and the blessings that come from strong families.

“The generosity at the heart of Lohri continues to shine as neighbours exchange harvest treats, share gifts, and come together across different faiths and traditions. Around the bonfire, communities are united by gratitude, friendship, and the hope of a better year ahead.

“Tonight, as offerings are cast into the flames and prayers rise for prosperity and peace, I wish everyone celebrating a joyful and blessed Lohri.

“Happy Lohri!”
