OTTAWA – The NDP Review and Renewal initiative has completed and shared its report on the 2025 election campaign and how to move forward as a party.

“New Democrats are proud of our history, and proud of what we have accomplished together to make Canada a fairer and stronger country,” said labour and human rights lawyer and former NDP candidate, Emilie Taman, who facilitated the report. “Members are hopeful and optimistic about the party’s future. I am glad to have been able to give them an opportunity to have their voices heard about the last election, and to give direction on what comes next.”

Ms. Taman was asked in July to speak with members in a wide-ranging consultation and to present a report to the party’s federal council on the outcome of those consultations. As part of this work, Ms. Taman:

  • Met one-on-one with over 60 former and current members of Parliament, candidates, Electoral District Association (EDA) representatives, Party staff, Labour leaders, and elected New Democrats in a number of provinces.
  • Met with members of the Federal Council, Party Executive and Officers, and representatives of most of the Party’s Equity Commissions.
  • Hosted approximately 30 group discussions with campaign managers, candidates, EDA executive members, members, and volunteers.
  • Reviewed 3,500 survey responses to the public post-election survey and campaign staff surveys, as well as over 500 emails with written feedback from individuals, EDAs, and local campaign teams.

“I want to thank Emilie and her team for their hard work on this critically important task,” said NDP President Mary Shortall. “I also want to thank all members who took part in Emilie’s discussions and who care so deeply about the future of our party. Canada’s New Democrats are committed to providing a stronger progressive voice for people throughout the country.”

“This is an exciting and optimistic time for New Democrats – a historic opportunity to rebuild the party and be a strong, progressive, national voice,” added NDP Leader Don Davies. “Emilie’s report is a vital part of that rebuilding project. With Mark Carney’s government increasingly governing like conservatives, we know that Canadians want and need us to do this important work more than ever.”

The report was distributed to members of the party and can be found here.
