Liberal Pipe Dream

Ottawa, ON – Less than two weeks ago, on November 27th, Mark Carney signed an energy MOU with the Government of Alberta. Key to that agreement was the Prime Minister’s comment stating, “at the core of the agreement, of course, is a priority to have a pipeline to Asia that’s going to make Canada stronger, more independent, more resilient, more sustainable.”

This evening, Mark Carney and his Liberal caucus voted against a motion put forward by the Conservatives using the Prime Minister’s own language from the MOU, proving he has no intention to build a much-need pipeline to the Pacific.

Conservatives support pipelines and support shovels in the ground that will unlock trillions of dollars in investment, boost Canadian paycheques and strengthen the Canadian dollar. Instead of joining in the spirit of collaboration to get their promised pipeline built, the Liberals rejected their own agreement, even after Conservatives amended the language to incorporate more language from the MOU itself.

Meanwhile, immediately after the amendment was introduced, Carney’s sole MP for Calgary announced his party was opposing a pipeline to the Pacific unless it involved a massive, crippling carbon tax. A pipeline with nothing in it will not deliver prosperity for anyone, yet an empty pipe dream is all the Liberals are willing to deliver.

Tonight’s vote shows the Liberals were never serious about delivering a pipeline. Instead, Carney’s keep-it-in-the-ground caucus will find any excuse to block, delay and obstruct projects that will restore powerful paycheques for Canadian families. It’s clear there is only one party who will deliver on the promise of building at unimaginable speeds.

Conservatives will deliver by getting out of the way, repealing the industrial carbon tax and granting a permit for a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific.
