Ottawa to fast track permanent residency for foreign doctors – December 8, 2025

At a news conference in Toronto, Lena Metlege Diab, the federal immigration minister, announces measures aimed at boosting Canada’s supply of doctors. The plan involves the creation of a new express entry program for international doctors with at least one year of Canadian work experience over the last three years.

The minister is joined by Maggie Chi, the parliamentary secretary to the federal health minister, and Margot Burnell, the president of the Canadian Medical Association.
