Cuts to public service will harm Canadians, union warns

The first budget of the Carney government will bring cuts to the federal public service. By 2028-2029, the public service workforce is slated to be reduced by 40,000 (or 10 per cent) from its peak size in 2023-2024. Sean O’Reilly, president for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, warns that those cuts will affect services that are critical for Canadians.
