Ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill before the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Anita Anand (foreign affairs), Maninder Sidhu (international trade) and Julie Dabrusin (environment), as well as Chief Government Whip Mark Gerretsen comment on today’s federal budget, which will be tabled by the finance minister this afternoon in the House of Commons.

Anand and Sidhu face questions on Beijing’s decision to reinstate Chinese tour group travel back into Canada. This comes following Prime Minister Mark Carney’s bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Gyeongju, South Korea, on the sidelines of the 2025 APEC summit.

Minister Sean Fraser (justice) responds to questions on the recent Supreme Court decision that struck down one-year mandatory minimum jail sentences for possession and accessing child pornography.
