KIJHL announces Team of the Week (Week 7)

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Nov. 2.

Forwards:

Brayden Schwartz – Kimberley Dynamiters 

The Okotoks, Alta., native collected four goals and two assists in two games, helping the Dynamiters win both their games. His eighth goal of the season gave them a 3-1 lead on Fernie on what ended as a 6-1 final. In their 9-0 win over Golden, Schwartz netted the winner – the first of three goals and added two assists. Schwartz was +6.

Hayden Selin – Kamloops Storm

The St. Albert, Alta., native was a factor in back-to-back wins against the Quesnel River Rush. In their 6-2 win, Selin had a goal and two assists – the first assist coming on the winning goal. In their 8-3 win, Selin set up their first two goals then scored the seventh. Selin was +6.

Carter Hensch – Columbia Valley Rockies

The Grand Prairie, Alta., native had three goals and three assists in three games. In a 5-3 win over the Spokane Braves, Hensch scored twice and had four points. His first tied the game 2-2 and he set up Evin Bossel’s winner in the second period. In a 5-0 win over the Castlegar Rebels, Hensch set up Parker Cutts’ winner six minutes into the second period, then scored to make it 4-0. Hensch was +6.

Defence:

Nate Turton – Fernie Ghostriders

The rookie from Airdrie, Alta., assisted on their opening goal in a 2-1 win over the Quesnel River Rush, then against Williams Lake, assisted on another and scored their second goal giving them a 2-1 lead en route to a 4-2 win. Turton was +5, while playing an average of 20:33 a game.

Jackson Murphy – Kimberley Dynamiters

The 20-year-old blueliner from Calgary scored in their 6-1 win over the Fernie Ghostriders, then collected two assists in their 9-0 win over Golden. More impressive is his +8 rating while playing an average of 18:22 a game. It’s the second straight Team of the Week selection for Murphy.

 

Goalie:

Leo den Besten – Fernie Ghostriders

The St. Albert, Alta., native earns his second Team of the Week nod in four weeks. Den Besten made 92 saves on 98 shots for a 1.67 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. Den Besten made 31 saves in a tight 2-1 win over the River Rush. He had a 21-save performance in a 4-2 win over Williams Lake, then was strong again in a 29-save effort for a 2-1 win against the 100 Mile House Wranglers.
