Prime Minister Mark Carney and ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill before the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

The prime minister as well as Minister Anita Anand (foreign affairs) and Secretary of State Wayne Long (Canada Revenue Agency and financial institutions) comment on the initial agreement between Hamas and Israel on the U.S.-proposed Gaza ceasefire deal.

Carney, in addition to Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance) and Steven MacKinnon (government House leader) are asked about a Radio-Canada analysis that showed that less than one-fifth of the prime minister’s public speeches since his election have been in French.

Champagne, MacKinnon and Long face questions on reports that U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick doesn’t see the prospect of an auto sector deal between the two countries.

Additionally, Champagne comments on the possibility of the Port of Saguenay being considered for a Northern corridor by the federal Major Projects Office.

Minister Patty Hajdu (jobs and families) and Julie Dabrusin (environment and climate change) are about the future of Canada Post and about federal emissions targets.

Minister Steven Guilbeault (Canadian Identity and Culture) is asked about a new report that finds that online influencers held significant sway over information in the last federal election.
