Minister comment on PBO deficit forecast, future of Canada Post – September 25, 2025

Ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill before the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance) and Steven MacKinnon (government House leader) face questions on the parliamentary budget officer’s projection that the federal deficit will increase to $65.8 billion in the 2025-26.

MacKinnon as well as Ministers Patty Hajdu (jobs and families), Eleanor Olszewski (emergency management) and Gregor Robertson (housing) as asked about new measures the federal government is set to introduce on the future of Canada Post.

Natalie Drouin, national security advisor to Prime Minister Mark Carney, is questioned about meetings she had last week with officials from the government of India.

Minister Sean Fraser (justice) faces questions on the federal government’s decision to bar the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap from entering the country.
